Owner-operator
A truck driver who owns their tractor (and sometimes trailer) and operates it as an independent business.
Owner-operators range from single-truck independents who drive themselves, to small fleet owners with 2-15 trucks who employ other drivers. The defining characteristic: the owner is responsible for both the business decisions and (often) the wheel time.
